SECONDARY GIRLS SCHOOL PRODUCTION

The Secondary Girls school production “Sabr” will be on June 22nd at the Mangere Arts Centre. Further details to follow.

 WINTER LEAGUE 2023

Both Senior Boys and Junior Boys will resume winter league from this Wednesday 17th May 2023. We appreciate the contribution and support by the parents and the students. Monty who has played for All Whites is assisting in coaching.

AUT Business Scholarship Opportunity for 2024

Students who are interested in Business can apply for a $6,000 scholarship to help fund their studies in their second and third year. The qualifications are:

  • Demonstrate limited opportunity for university study without this scholarship.
  • Demonstrate leadership and role model potential.
  • Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in NCEA level 2 or higher (or in an equivalent qualification) and in their final year of full-time study at a secondary school. Applicants will have a minimum, one of the following:
  • NCEA 250 rank score

SPEECH COMPETITION

Kulsum Husain from 12G participated in the Race Unity speech competition at MIT.  Mashallah, Kulsum qualified for semi-final.

WINTER SEASON

Winter days are here. Students are to be properly dressed up in their winter school uniform when they come to school. School uniform is regularly checked by school Deans.

 NCEA COREQUISITE LITERACY AND NUMERACY

Al-Madinah School (AMS) is offering the NCEA corequisite literacy and numeracy standards to year 10 students in 2023. The new standards will help ensure that students have the foundational skills to support them in further studies, work, and life. These standards are currently scheduled to become a mandatory part of NCEA from 2024.

  • Literacy | Reading US32403, 5 credits- Read written texts to understand ideas and information.
  • Literacy | Writing US32405, 5 credits – Write texts to communicate ideas and information.
  • Numeracy US32406, 10 credits- Use mathematics and statistics to meet the numeracy demands of a range of situations.

Parents to take note of the assessment dates.

Reading on Tuesday 31/10/2023, Writing on Wednesday 01/11/2023 and Numeracy on Thursday 02/11/2023.  Full details have been shared with the parents of year 10 students.

 ZUHAR SALAH TIME AT AMS

Mon – Thurs 1.40pm – 2.00pm

Fridays 1.40pm – 2.15pm

Parents/caregivers are advised NOT to pick-up your child/children during the above times. If there is any urgent appointment during these timing, please pick them up before salah.

 PUNCTUALITY

We have seen many students from nearby areas coming late to school. The class teacher will first discuss the issues with the parents, and if the problem continues, then a letter will be sent home by the school Dean.

 ASSESSMENTS

Assessments will start soon in Years 1-6 as there will be on-going assessments.

GATEWAY PROGRAMS

Alhamdulillah, 10 students from Years 12 and 13 have achieved their Forklift Licence.

10 students from Years 12 and 13 are also attending gateway programme in Civil Engineering till end of this term.

YRE TRIP

A group of students from 10G attended the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Workshop at Auckland University on 9th of May. The students took part in two interactive sessions with an environmental and journalism focus. They took part in practical photography and filming experiences and interviewed students who are part of an environmental organisation at the University. The aim of the day was for students to learn more about the YRE national competition which all students from years 7-10 will be taking part in again this year. Entries are due in July.

SOUTH AUCKLAND MATHEMATICS CHALLENGE

Mashallah to the following students from Year 9 for getting the 2nd place in the South Auckland Mathematics Challenge out of the 16 teams.
